'Tis the Season...To Unplug!
SCS e-xpress Nov/Dec 2015

Tablet pc with text Time To Unplug with bokeh background A Message from Sarah & Chris:

The theme of this holiday issue is "unplugging during the holidays."

The holiday season is a wonderful time to spend time with family and friends and give thanks for our blessings. Consider taking a technology break during the holidays and commit to unplug for a designated period of time. Unplugging will allow you to live in the moment, enjoy face-to-face interactions, and engage all of your senses so that you can fully experience the beauty of this special time of year.

We hope you enjoy our free SCS e-newsletter.  Please send us your ideas and suggestions for future issues.

SCS wishes each of you a wonderful Holiday Season and a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!

'Tis the Season...
To Unplug!

As a society, we have become very dependent upon technology. Today's Smartphone has become the Swiss Army Knife of yesteryear - the "go to" tool that we can't live without. Our Smartphones are so much a part of us, almost like appendages, that we panic (i.e., separation anxiety) when we misplace them or forget to bring them with us. Some folks have developed obsessive relationships with their cell phones, compulsively checking them, while others experience "phantom vibration syndrome" or "ring-xiety."

Many of us are addicted to 24/7 connectivity. It is a love/hate relationship. While things like Smartphones, the internet, email, and social media give us instant access to the world, they sometimes rob us of valuable real-world experiences. When we focus too much on the virtual world, we can miss out on important happenings around us. Too much technology can also cause mental exhaustion, depression, sleep disorders, and it can make us grumpier and less productive.

We all need some down time. This holiday season, schedule some time for a "digital detox" or "technology fast." Use your "out of office" email feature, along with "do not disturb" or "airplane mode" on your Smartphone, and

Whether you unplug for 30 minutes, an entire day, or even longer - remember to live in the moment.  Spend quality time with family and friends. Let your senses run wild! Listen to holiday music, enjoy the tastes of the season, observe the beautiful decorations all around you, smell the fireplaces burning, share a kiss under the mistletoe - and feel the magic in the air!

Christmas decorations, a gift and candles in front of a fireplace. A fire is burning in the fireplace and Christmas stockings are hanging on the mantelpiece. A Christmas tree is standing next to the fireplace in the background.

happy holidays
